Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle stands above the village of the same name. The castle dates back to the 11th century, and commands a gap in the Purbeck Hills on the route between Wareham and Swanage. The majority of traffic to and from the Swanage area passes below the battlements of the castle. Demolition of the castle in 1646 by the Parliamentarians marked the end of a rich history as both fortress and royal residence.
